Bun B Is Teaching Hip-Hop And Religion At Rice University

Bun B will be dropping knowledge starting this March, and it won’t be on wax. Rice University has just announced that it will be offering its course on religion and hip-hop culture in an open, online format. The class is taught by none other than Bun B; the UGK rapper has previously worked with Anthony Pinn, a religious studies to professor, to offer a classroom version of the material.
In addition to his role studying and discussing the roles religion plays and has played in society, Pinn is the founder of Rice’s Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning; this new online version of the class he teaches with Bun hopes to carry those ‘engaged’ and ‘collaborative’ credos to their natural endpoints. “Working with Bun in the classroom, it became clear that there were ways of learning and teaching that we hadn’t tapped,” says Pinn. The course promises to be “even more creative and innovative in terms of how we link the rest of world with the cultural richness and diversity of Houston to get information across.”
As for Bun B, he says he’s proud to have “started a conversation that cannot end until people have a better understanding of who we are and what we do,” where “we” refers to people who participate in hip-hop culture.
The course is open for registration now, but is currently limited to Rice students. It begins Mar. 24. Rice produced a video to promote the class. Check it out below:
