STREAM: Shlohmo's New Album "Dark Red"

Shlohmo's New Album "Dark Red"

Stream "Dark Red", the brand new album from L.A. producer Shlohmo.

Hip-hop inspired experimental producer Shlohmo first hit our radars when he put out a banging remix to Jeremih's "Fuck U All the Time". Jeremih loved the mix, and the two soon put out a collaborative EP, No More, one of our favorite projects of last year. The L.A. beatmaker is a solo artist first and foremost, though, and his latest album, Dark Red, is 11 instrumentals to get lost in no matter what genre you usually stick to.
We've heard "Emerge from Smoke" and "Buried", and the rest of the album promises more of the same moody, hypnotic soundscapes--though each track is a trip of its own. He also recently produced a track for Spooky Black, and Tory Lanez just announced a Shlohmo collab on his upcoming project, so look out for more Shlohmo in the hip-hop world.
Stream Dark Red via NY Times, and let us know what you think of the album.

Tory Lanez Reveals Details Of His New Project, Including Collabs With Shlohmo & Baauer

Tory Lanez talks about his new project at SXSW.

Whether via his Fargo Fridays series or Lost Cause tape, Tory Lanez really brought the heat last year. So far in 2015, we've received the bangers "Diego" and "Dimelo," and when speaking to the dude himself at SXSW, we learned that a new project will soon follow. Featuring production from ShlohmoRL Grime, Baauer and d33j, the upcoming release has Lanez very excited. "Some of the most incredible music that I feel like is known to man is on that project," he said.
In terms of what to expect, Tory says he's got "the most unexpected collabs producing-wise and feature-wise," adding that, "Sonically, it's a ride."

50 Cent & French Montana Clown Each Other On Instagram

50 Cent and French Montana get in an Effen vodka-related beef on Instagram.

In 2015, it's common knowledge that beefs between rappers spill over onto social media more often than not, bot in the most recent case of this, branded alcohols got dragged into the mix as well. What began with 50 Cent using the hashtag #noPuffyjuice in a post promoting his new vodka, Effen, soon attracted the attention of Bad Boy signee French Montana, and then shots were traded between the two NYC rappers.
Montana shared the infamous GQ cover that had Fif rocking a questionable outfit, and then he responded by posting a picture of French and Diddy getting a little too cozy out in the sun together. Check their posts below.

NEWS: Jay Z Wants TIDAL To "Extend The Album Cycle" & Restore "Fair Trade" In Music

Jay Z Wants TIDAL To "Extend The Album Cycle" & Restore "Fair Trade" In Music

Jay Z shares some insight into the goals of his new streaming service, TIDAL.

There was no way the announcement of TIDAL was going to go down without a surprise, but while plenty of people thought they had it figured out (an album drop from Rihanna or Kanye West), no one predicted the actual unveiling -- the huge cast of musicians who co-own the service.
Despite sharing ownership with Kanye West, Rihanna, Madonna, and many more, Jay Z's name has been attached to the service for the last few weeks, and it was Hov who gave the first interview on the goals of the company with Billboard today.
Jay revealed in the sit-down that he's attempting to make sure that everyone involved in music (those behind the scenes moreso than the artists) gets their fair share, as well as his goal to maintain a consistent output from artists that isn't limited to an album cycle.
Check out some excerpts from Jay's #NewRules below. Read the full interview here.

On restoring "fair trade" in music:

Definitely. For someone like me, I can go on tour. But what about the people working on the record, the content creators and not just the artists? If they’re not being compensated properly, then I think we’ll lose some writers and producers and people like that who depend on fair trade. Some would probably have to take another job, and I think we’ll lose some great writers in the process. Is it fair? No. If you put in work, everyone else, you go to work you get paid. That’s fair trade. It’s what our country is built on.
On what he wants out of TIDAL:
Artists come here and start making songs 18 minutes long, or whatever. I know this is going to sound crazy, but maybe they start attempting to make a “Like a Rolling Stone,” you know, a song that doesn't have a recognizable hook, but is still considered one of the greatest songs of all time, the freedom that this platform will allow art to flourish here. And we’re encouraging people to put it in any format they like. It doesn't have to be three minutes and 30 seconds. What if it’s a minute and 17, what if it’s 11; you know, just break format. What if it’s just four minutes of just music and then you start rapping?
On whether it will offer exclusives from artists:
Well, it’s up to the artist. You know, there’s a thing now, it’s called the album cycle. You put your single out, promote it, then another single -- I think that now for an artist an album cycle doesn’t have to end. They’re on Instagram and Twitter and all these things, so we’re just talking about ways of extending that album cycle, and it could be anything. What if it’s a video offering tickets to the next concert, or what if it’s audio or video of the recording process? It could be anything. It could be them at home listening to songs that inspire them. Anything they want to offer, you know; just be as creative as possible, that’s the only charge, really. Make it look really good and make everyone that consumes it think, “Man, I got something really great.” Treat the people with respect; make it memorable.

NEWS: Lil Wayne To Release "Free Weezy Album" In April?

Lil Wayne To Release "Free Weezy Album" In April?

At his pool party over the weekend, Lil Wayne apparently hinted that the "Free Weezy Album" would drop next month.

On Saturday, Lil Wayne performed at a low-key pool party in Miami, and though not initially reported, it seems as if he dropped some hints about the Free Weezy Album's release date. According to Red Bull, the company that sponsored the "Guest House" performance, Weezy said his album would be dropping next month.
In their words, "During his short set, [Wayne] mentioned that next month he will release his mysterious Free Weezy Album." As this release seems to be unconnected to Cash Money, we'd expect Weezy to have more control over release dates, but still, this isn't confirmed. Do you expect this to drop when Wayne says it will?

NEWS: Young Dro Arrested For Theft

Young Dro Arrested For Theft

Young Dro has been brought in on a charge of "theft by conversion of leased or rented personal property."

Young Dro's been pretty quiet for the past few months, not dropping any new projects since 4/20 lat year, when his dual Purple Label/Black Label tapes dropped on the same day. Today, he pops up in the news, but unfortunately not for music-related reasons. While he was being contacted by law enforcement on Sunday for an unrelated incident, police learned of an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and so Dro was taken in on those theft charges.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dro was wanted for "theft by conversion of leased or rented personal property for a February incident," which sounds like some sort of property scam to me. Stay tuned for updates.

Maximillian Beats Volume 1
Maximillian is a up & coming "Canadian" producer/artist. He first began getting involved in the rapping scene formally known by the name "Dimez" he started at the young age of 12. After years of perfecting his craft he looked into creating his own beats as it was harder to find the kind of beats that was his sound. This quick transformation was thought out at the age of 19 and he has only been making beats of his own for 3 years, it was then he changed the name from "Dimez" to the name "Maximillian" which is not only something unique but it is also his middle name

NEWS: A$AP Rocky Formally Announces Title of New Album

A$AP Rocky Formally Announces Title of New Album
Months ago, Rocky shared the initials of his new album's title, now we know the effort's full name. Along with the new verse he kicked for the piece, A$AP Rocky also used his recent GQ feature to formally announce the title of his forthcoming album.  Holding true to the previously announced initials, the album will be called At.Long.Last.A$AP. Speaking to GQ, the Harlem rapper explained the title with the following statement:
“I’m claiming ownership of my legacy...Look at it: At.Long.Last.A$AP. A-L-L-A. Like slang for ‘Allah.’ It’s the return of the god MC. I’m named after Rakim, and I’m finally facing what it means: I was born to do this shit. And I hope I get to do it for a very long time.”
GQ writer Mary H.K. Choi also remarked that the album "contains Rocky's signature jet-setting swag and the usual fashion shout-outs, but you can also hear psychedelic '60s London and introspection. You hear Rocky singing. And acoustic guitar. And an unknown Brit named Joe Fox, whom Rocky met near the studio." No word yet on when we can expect At.Long.Last.A$AP, but as of now we have two recent A$AP Rocky songs to work with -- "Multiply" and "Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye II."

AUDIO: Listen to Kendrick Lamar's Funk-Filled Track, "King Kunta"

Listen to Kendrick Lamar's Funk-Filled Track, "King Kunta"

It's crazy to think we're less than ten days away from Kendrick Lamar's long-awaited album follow-up to his debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city. All it took was a then-untitled album to appear on iTunes with a March 23rd release date and it's been Kendrick show ever since. From covering Rolling Stone to the unveiling of the title, To Pimp A Butterfly, tracklist and artwork you see above.
Now, some actual music from LP has arrived in the form of the much-anticipated track, "King Kunta."
Pharrell has been quoted to say it's "so unapologetically black" and Rolling Stonecalled it "a theme song from a Seventies blaxploitation flick" - both of which are hard to argue. "King Kunta" makes perfect sense after K. Dot's recent performance on The Colbert ReportIt's a racially charged blast from the past, dripping in early G-Funk aesthetics (because "we want the funk!") – sprinkled with some rewind worthy bravado.
Paring with previous singles "i" and "The Blacker The Berry" to make up three of the 16 tracks included, there's really no way to fully know how Kendrick's LP will play out until March 23rd. For now, enjoy "King Kunta" below and hit iTunes for a pre-order

HOLD ON TO YOUR EMOTIONS, THE FIRST TRAILER FOR THE NEW KURT COBAIN DOCUMENTARY JUST DROPPED

Hold on to your fucking emotions, because the first trailer (above) for Montage of Heck a.k.a. the first authorized documentary about Kurt Cobain just dropped, and it is gut-wrenching.
His is a story that has been told and re-told, but Montage of Heck is an exception in that it was made with the full cooperation of his family and friends and given authorization to use Nirvana's music—released and unreleased. With Courtney Love and their daughter, Frances Bean, credited as executive producers alongside Acadamy Award nominated director Brett Morgen, the documentary includes never-before-seen home videos, Cobain's personal artwork and interviews from those closest to him.
How much more is it possible to know about the personal life of a man whose childhood diaries have already been printed and mass-published? Montage of Heck is about to show us and we are all definitely going to cry.

NEWS: Pharrell & Robin Thicke Earned A Combined $5 Million From "Blurred Lines"

Pharrell & Robin Thicke Earned A Combined $5 Million From "Blurred Lines"

The Marvin Gaye family lawsuit over "Blurred Lines" has revealed the total earnings from the song.

If you think the music industry is dying, a look at the revenue from Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" may change your mind. The ongoing lawsuit from Marvin Gaye's family has already unveiled secrets of the recording process (bottom line: Pharrell did everything), and now it's given us a look at the total earnings of the song.
While the classic industry belief is that the label takes close to all the proceeds made from music, the artists actually made a pretty huge chunk of cash this time around. According to Business InsiderT.I. pulled in $700,000 from sales, while Pharrell and Thicke split a cool $5 million.
With that being said, the labels did net the majority of the earnings, with Interscope Records, Universal Music Group, and Star Trak (yep, more money in Williams' pocket) taking in the remainder of the $16,675,690 total.

Marvin Gaye's estate is currently fighting for a cut of the writing credits, we'll keep you posted on the outcome of the suit.

NEWS: Nicki Minaj Felt Disrespected By Tyga Over "Truffle Butter" Leak, Is Banking On Lil Wayne & Birdman Working Things Out

Nicki Minaj Felt Disrespected By Tyga Over "Truffle Butter" Leak, Is Banking On Lil Wayne & Birdman Working Things Out

Nicki Minaj opens up about the recent Cash Money drama in an interview with BBC Radio 1 Xtra's Charlie Sloth.

There's a whole lot of drama going on at Cash Money these days, but for the most part, there's only a couple of major figures we've heard from directly. Lil Wayne and Tyga have made their feelings clear, but artists like Nicki Minaj and Drake have been less clear about taking sides (though conspiracy theories suggest Drizzy's whole new tape could be read as a middle finger to Birdman). In an interview with BBC Radio 1 Xtra's Charlie Sloth today, Nicki spoke a bit about the situation, and it seems like she'll be letting things play out for the meantime.
"I don't think it'll ever get to that point," Minaj said of whether she would leave the label with Wayne. “People know I love Wayne and I have loyalty towards him, but I love Baby too. I’m very close with Baby and I don’t think people know that. So I’m banking on the fact that they’re going to work this out like family. I mean, they’ve gone through things before, just like family does. I’m not even going to think that way".
The subject later turned to Tyga, who publicly bashed Minaj on Twitter, which Nicki revealed was over her song, "Truffle Butter"."The song was on my album, and *we don't know how* but it magically ended up in Tyga's hands, and I told him 'that's my song'," she said. "I told him me and Drake were going to be on it, and low and behold, it leaked with him on it after I told him not to put it out. I thought that was a little bit disrespectful because I had always shown him love."
The two have since worked things out according to the Pinkprint rapper. "He texted me later, and he apologized, and he said 'you always were there for me' and I respected him for saying that," she shared.
The leak certainly didn't hurt the song's radio play, which is strong enough that Nicki isn't even planning a video. "Truffle Butter" is the #1 Urban/Rhythmic song in America without a video, so it's like when a song is that successful without a video, I don't know if we need one," she explained. "It was just for the streets, for the love, we weren't really gonna shoot a video to be honest."

SNEAKERS: JORDAN WESTBROOK 0 UNVEILED

JORDAN WESTBROOK 0 UNVEILED
When we learned that Jordan Brand would be blessing Russell Westbrook with his own signature sneaker- the Jordan Westbrook 0- this is not at all what we were expecting.
Instead of a technologically advanced performance basketball sneaker, we are instead given this lifestyle model which features a premium upper, vulcanized outsole and D-ring eyelets. According to catalog scans, the Westbrook 0 won't be launching until October, so there's still time for these to grow on you.
Having said that, we won't be surprised when these start showing up on clearance racks alongside the rest of the 'Lifestyle' signature sneakers.
Hopefully, Jordan Brand won't limit one of their most explosive, and entertaining, athletes to mediocre lifestyle sneakers.

FASHION: KANYE WEST X ADIDAS ORIGINALS YEEZY SEASON 1 PRICING INFO

KANYE WEST X ADIDAS ORIGINALS YEEZY SEASON 1 PRICING INFO

If you're in the market for some Kanye West x Adidas Originals gear we have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the Yeezy Boost Low will be cheaper than the $350 high-top version, and will retail for roughly $210. That's it for the good news.
Entry level clothing goods from Kanye West's Yeezy Season 1, such as sweatshirts and hoodies, will be going for around $430. Duckboots will run you about $500, as will a canvas backpack. A CANVAS BACKPACK!
Furthermore, knitwear pieces will start $875+ and range all the way up to $1650. You don't even want to know about the price of some Kanye x Adidas Originals outerwear.
But, since we're here- jackets and the like will range from $1760 to nearly $4,000. Of course, each of the pieces were made in Italy from only the finest materials, so maybe the price is warranted? Nah, we're talking about ADIDAS here, the same company that made those sneakers with the wings hanging off the back.
In any event, Yeezy Season 1 is scheduled to launch in the Fall/Winter of 2015, which will give you plenty of time to stack your chips so you can buy a sleeve of a Kanye West x Adidas Originals hoodie, or the zipper off one of the backpacks.

NEWS: Juvenile Shares His Thoughts On Birdman/Lil Wayne Situation

Juvenile Shares His Thoughts On Birdman/Lil Wayne Situation

Juvenile gives his perspective on the rift between Young Money and Cash Money.

This past October, Juvenile returned to the label he was raised on by inking a deal with Cash Money. A few months later, the turmoil began between Lil Wayne and Birdman, and by extension, Young Money and Cash Money. Weezy has since sued Birdman for a hefty sum, and it doesn't seem like a resolution between the former partners will happen any time soon. Unfortunately, that means that quite a few artists on their roster are stuck in the middle.
We sat down with Juvenile recently while he was promoting his upcoming Mardi Gras II tape, and he shared his vantage point on the situation.
"From my standpoint, business is great with Cash Money, cause you know we did some good business in order for me to be signed back [on the label]. I got a good deal," he told us. "Is the relationship hurting me with what's going on between Wayne and Baby? A little bit in the sense of I wish it wasn't happening, I wish this wasn't going on, that's what really hurts me."
He continued, "But yeah, me being back with Cash Money one of the things was to work with DrakeNicki Minaj and people like that, who wouldn't wanna be able to do that? And there's really no bad blood me with no side. I really feel like when it's family you stay outta it. I think it's something they gotta resolve. As far as the business, as far as me, with Cash Money, I feel it's great though."
We also asked about the situation between Juvie and Mannie Fresh, once a hit-making duo. The two are working together again, and expect one such collaboration to appear on the Mardi Gras II tape. "I just recorded a song with Mannie, I don't wanna say everything that I got going on, but I'ma leak this out the bag, Mannie Fresh is on Mardi Gras 2. Me and Mannie and I never had issues. He stayed at Cash Money when I left-- that's probably the only issue we ever had, cause I was tryna get answers to my questions and Mannie was one of the people that couldn't answer them. But it was never a friction where I had a problem with him."
Mardi Gras II drops March 26th. Watch the full Juvie interview below, where he also reflects on 400 Degreez.
