MOVIE NEWS: Sony Is Already Planning An El Chapo Movie

Sony Is Already Planning An El Chapo Movie

Sony is making a movie based on the book “Hunting El Chapo.”

While Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is currently sitting in an American prison for his ongoing criminal cases and his days as a criminal kingpin may be over, his time in the media is just beginning. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has purchased the rights to an as-of-yet unnamed movie based around El Chapo’s life story.
The movie will be based on a book (which also hasn’t come out yet) called Hunting El Chapo: The Thrilling Inside Story of the American Lawman Who Captures The World’s Most-Wanted Drug Lord. We’re assuming the movie title will be less of a mouthful.
This movie isn’t the only thing currently in production about the former Sinaloa Cartel; Netflix and Univision have partnered to create a fictional drama series that will tell his thrilling story. The book comes out Oct. 17, so the movie is still a ways off.

NEWS: Barack Obama Is Pleased With Sony’s Decision To Release ‘The Interview’

Barack Obama Is Pleased With Sony’s Decision To Release ‘The Interview’
POTUS is happy
Last week, when Sony decided to cancel The Interview‘s Christmas Day release as a precaution in the face of terrorist threats from hackers, President Obama wasn’t very happy. In a nutshell, his reaction went along the lines of ‘nobody thought to ask me first?’ He addressed these concerns at his annual year-end press conference.
Well, not only has Sony decided that The Interview will still be released, but the film will actually be released tomorrow at select theaters–you can find out where you can catch Seth Rogen and James Franco‘s highly controversial new film here. Naturally, now that Sony has decided to, you know, not negotiate or bow in the face of terrorists, the president is quite pleased with his witty studio executives. A short White House statement reads:
The president applauds Sony’s decision to authorize screenings of the film. As the president made clear, we’re a country that believes in free speech and the right of artistic expression. The decision made by Sony and participating theaters allows people to make their own choices about the film and we welcome that outcome.
Applauds?! You go, Sony!

Sony pulls its plans to release The Interview on Christmas. President Obama gets all ‘we don’t negotiate with terrorists, Sony’ on Amy Pascal and company. A Sony attorney says ‘look, we’re still doing this thing’. Then it turns out Sony attorney wasn’t lying, Sony is still doing this thing. Obama gets all happy. Theaters quietly make plans to show the film tomorrow. It appears order’s been restored.
Then, Sony blows the roof off the joint, and says hey, its 2014. Let’s show the movie everywhere, by streaming it. So, you can now watch Seth Rogen and James Franco‘s highly-controversial, oft-talked about, presidentially-debated new film, The Interview, right here for a minimal fee of $6–half of what you’d pay if you travel to one of those far and wide mom-and-pop theaters that are showing the film on the big screen.

NEWS: Possible Kanye West Film Revealed By Sony E-mail Leaks

Possible Kanye West Film Revealed By Sony E-mail Leaks

Kanye West's creative director e-mailed Sony about a "feature length film" in the works.

Sony's email was hacked, as you may know, and this has led to plenty of tentative movie plans hitting the net, as well as an inside look as to how the industry really behaves. Over the weekend we learned that Spike Lee would like to have Drake and Kevin Hart star in a "School Daze" sequel. More possible movie plans hit the web today, with the latest e-mail leak revealing Kanye West's team reached out to Sony about a possible "immersive cinema experience."
Yeezy already had a successful movie debut at the Cannes film festival in 2012, creating an extremely unique movie experience with seven screens displaying the film. In an e-mail to a Sony executive, Kanye's creative director Elon Rutberg wrote,
"I supervise all of Kanye's film and media projects, and we have a major film project coming up that involves both cinematic and technological innovation, so I naturally thought Sony and wanted to reach out," Rutberg wrote in the email. "We premiered a multi-screen cinema experience to great response at Cannes 2012, and are looking to take the storytelling to the next level with a feature length film, shot for an immersive cinema experience."
As Complex reports, it's possible Rutberg is referring to the "Yeezus" film, of which we received a trailer back in February. There have been no new developments since then.
The e-mail leaks also reveal plans for a Kanye West cameo in a film starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, which is slated for 2015. The promo for it is somehow attached to the movie "The Interview," and involves recreating an iconic scene from the movie "Big."
"We have a specific idea to attach to THE INTERVIEW that will crush. Seth, Joe, and [Anthony] Mackie reenacting the scene from BIG on the floor piano at FAO Schwartz with KANYE WEST. It's fucking awesome."
