SHORT FILM: Drake - Obey Your Thirst (Episode 1)

Drake - Obey Your Thirst (Episode 1)

Drake is a superstar—the only guy who could dethrone Taylor Swift on the charts with a mixtape. In a rare interview, he spoke with The FADER.

Coming up in Toronto, people told Drake to move to New York if he was serious about making it. Instead, he stayed where he was and made history by proving that if you’re a truly multi-layered artist, you can make it from anywhere. “Do it the way I did it," he says in the above Obey Your Thirst documentary. "Do it from where you’re at. If you have the music, that's all it takes."

Now, at the top of his game, Drake says he competes not with established legends or other top-sellers, but with the countless kids itching to take his spot.

Now that hip-hop's playing field is more open than ever before, Drake knows
there are countless kids itching to take his spot. Those up-and-comers are now his competition, not any established rapper. “That’s how I try to keep pushing this forward,” he says. “Just to let that kid know that I’m not done yet.” Watch the full documentary above, and stay tuned for three more by Sprite and The FADER, sharing the stories of Nas, Vince Staples, and Isaiah Rashad.

NEWS: 50 Cent Calls Out A$AP Rocky For Sliding Into His Ex's DMs [Update: Rocky Responds]

50 Cent Calls Out A$AP Rocky For Sliding Into His Ex's DMs [Update: Rocky Responds]

50 Cent took to Instagram to diss A$AP Rocky after he allegedly contacted Fif's ex, Tatted Up Holly.

Yesterday, 50 Cent's ex-girlfriend, Tatted Up Holly, accused the rapper of domestic abuse, calling him a "manipulating women beater". While 50 has yet to respond to the claims Holly made on her Instagram account, he has now posted a photo of what appears to be his ex's DMs, which show A$AP Rocky contacting the model to work together.
Fif took the opportunity to diss Rocky for his fashion choices in his caption, and compared the situation to Wiz Khalifa's relationship with Amber Rose following her breakup with Kanye.

Boy of boy, last time I seen this punk he had a dress on. You cant afford holly I gave her habits, get your weight up first boy. Bentley and better over here, n!gga can you buy that? f*ck you think I'm Kanye and you Wiz lol

You can view the photo below (and screencap in the gallery above, as we anticipate being deleted). Will Rocky respond? Let us know in the comments.

[Update: Rocky Responds]

Rocky has now responded to 50 Cent's comments on Twitter, revealing that he didn't realize Fif and Holly were an item, and while maintaining that he has respect for the rapper, told him to "stop acting like a jealous sugar daddy".

NEWS: Jay Z Calls New York Governor's Police Reform Plan "A Huge Step Forward"

Jay Z Calls New York Governor's Police Reform Plan "A Huge Step Forward"

Jay Z releases a statement responding to NY governor Andrew Cuomo's plan for police reform.

As New York state governor Andrew Cuomo called upon Jay Z and Russell Simmons to consult him on matters related to the criminal justice system last month, he's probably pleased to hear that Jay has come out in support of his reform plan. Among the changes proposed by Cuomo are recruiting more minority officers, funding body cameras and bulletproof vests and forming a statewide commission on police-community relations.  Following Cuomo's words about the plan during his State of the State speech last week, Jay has offered up a statement in support of the reform package:
"The criminal justice reform package proposed by Governor Cuomo today is a huge step forward in restoring fairness, protection, sensitivity and accountability for all under our justice system. I commend Governor Cuomo for his bold leadership in taking this issue head on at this critical time. This package presents comprehensive steps to protect and improve relations amongst all citizens. We cannot be divided, as every single human being matters. Together, we can move forward as a community, with mutual respect for each other and continue to make this great state stronger than ever before."
Hopefully, this plan will diminish police brutality in the State of New York.

NEWS: Mister Cee Joins A New Radio Station After Leaving Hot 97

Mister Cee Joins A New Radio Station After Leaving Hot 97

After resigning from Hot 97, Mister Cee has announced he's taken up a new position at a different New York radio station.

Welp, Hot 97 just lost another one of their veteran radio personalities to a competing hip-hop/r'n'b station in New York. In November, Mister Cee, who's had his fair share of tabloid gossip and press this past year, announced his retirement from Hot 97. It's a move that he almost did amid the drama, but as he said during his final radio mix, "I am signing off from HOT 97 after this day. Nothing happened to me. There's no controversy like last year [laughs]. It's just it's time for me to go, Tri-State. It's time for me to move on."
Now we've found out that he's literally moving on, to another radio station. In a statement to XXL, Mister Cee revealed he's taken up a position at Radio 103.9 in New York. The station is r'n'b-centric, but undoubtedly Mister Cee will bring his fair share of hip-hop to it. You'll be hear to Cee live on Radio 103.9 this Saturday, December 13th. Read Mister Cee's all-caps (why) statement on the new venture below.
"I AM EXCITED, HUMBLED, & BLESSED TO BE BACK ON THE RADIO WITH THE NEW RADIO 103.9 IN NEW YORK. TO BE A PART OF A NEW GROWING STATION GIVES ME A FRESH START IN MY RADIO CAREER. SPECIAL THANKS TO KEN JOHNSON & RAPHAEL GEORGE FOR GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY. ALSO A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ANDREW VERAS AKA DOMINICAN DREW FOR PUSHING FOR ME TO BE A PART OF THE RADIO 103.9 FAMILY, I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET IT."

NEWS: Pusha T, Young Thug, YG Among 30 Rappers Recruited For "Rap Monument" Track

30 rappers will appear on an upcoming track which will showcase the talent of Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York.

Crew tracks are commonplace in rap today, but unless we're going back to The Game's legendary "One Blood" remix, they rarely feature more than 5 or 6 rappers. A new project put together by Noisey and Hennessy plans to raise the bar for posse cuts, featuring 30 different rappers recorded in 3 different cities (Game's track had 23 rappers by the way. We had to count).
With studio sessions in rap hotspots New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, producer Nick Hook recorded verses from the likes of YG, Problem, Action Bronson, Scotty ATL, Nipsey Hussle, Raekwon, Killer Mike, Pusha T, Rockie Fresh, and many more for the ambitious project.
As you can see from the list of names, not everyone fits into the three regions, but everyone came out to the studios in those locations.
The sessions in each city were documented, and can be viewed below. No word on when the song will be coming out, but it seems as though it could be any day now.
