Kim Kardashian’s Alleged Robber Confirms Social Media Helped Him Plan Heist
The alleged ringleader of the group that robbed Kim Kardashian West in early October told French police last week that his team obtained much of the information they needed to pull off the heist from her social media posts, French newspaper Le Monde reports. Aomar Ait Khedache, the implicated 60-year-old veteran robber, whom Le Monde called le vieux, “or old man,” said that the thieves were able to perform an appraisal of Kardashian West’s jewels—and knew all about her trip to Paris—thanks to social media.
“The jewels were shown on the Internet, and [she said] that she didn’t wear fakes . . . the time she would arrive in France, you just had to look at the Internet and you knew everything, absolutely everything,” he said in the police report obtained by Le Monde.
In the days following the October robbery, Paris police chief Christian Sainte hinted to reporter Mark Seal, who detailed the heist in Vanity Fair, that they expected as much. “She gives information on social media all the time,” he replied when asked whether the thieves were following Kardashian West on her feeds back in October.
Khedache, however, also told police that he and his alleged accomplices bolstered those leads with “very precise information” about the reality star’s movements in Paris, thanks to “someone who was very close to her.” They had planned to rob her on a previous trip to the city, he said, but called it off because she was never alone.
The fate of the jewelry has already been sealed, per Khedache, with everything except Kardashian West’s reported $4 million engagement ring having been melted down and sold off. The 20-karat-ring is in “somebody’s” possession, he said, but “we’re all afraid to sell it because it is a stone that is very easy to spot.”
