NEWS: Ahead Of "More Life," Drake Hits Record 10 Billion Streams On Spotify

Ahead Of "More Life," Drake Hits Record 10 Billion Streams On Spotify

IT'S A CANADIAN TING EH!

Drake is going into his new release with a strong lead on the competition.

Drake has become the very first artist to earn 10 billion streams on Spotify. Much of that figure can be attributed to the Toronto rapper's 4th studio album VIEWS, which has achieved over 2 billion streams on its own, according to Forbes. "One Dance," which became Drizzy's very first Hot 100 no. 1 last year, has over 1 billion plays to its name.

The Forbes article predicts that another artist will hit the 10 billion milestone in a matter of time, though Drake is expected to be in the 15 or even 20 billion-stream range by then.

This news comes shortly before Drake will release his new project (which he has billed as a "playlist") More Life. The project is expected to be released on all major streaming services simultaneously, rather than exclusively on Apple Music, as the rapper has done in the past. In other words, Drizzy should be putting some big numbers up on Spotify as early as this evening.

Earlier today, Drake revealed a new flower tattoo inspired by More Life. Revisit the many events that led to the release of the highly anticipated project with our More Life story tag.
Drake recently became the first artist to reach 10 billion streams on Spotify. Rather than shared as an Apple Music exclusive as Drake has done in the past, More Life will be available across all major streaming services.

Drizzy isn’t the only big name A Boogie has crossed paths with. During Beyoncé’s “Formation World Tour,” the New York spitter popped up during DJ Khaled’s opening set at New Jersey’s Met Life Stadium. There, he met Jay Z.
“I thought I was gonna meet [Beyoncé],” he shares. “I didn’t know I was gonna meet Jay Z…I was talking to somebody. I looked to my left, it was Jay Z. I looked back, looked again, it was Jay Z. I’m like, ‘Oh shit!’ He came over, said what’s up, showed me props. It was dope.”
Another one of his superstar supporters is Diddy. In fact, he says Puff Daddy spoke to him about signing with Bad Boy. “He was trying to see what’s up with me, where I’m at, where I’m going,” says Boogie. “He was talking [about a potential deal] but my eyes was everywhere…I considered it.”
Despite that, A Boogie is simply reppin’ Highbridge the Label. “We come from a neighborhood called Highbridge in Bronx, New York, by Yankee Stadium,” he says. “We come from that so we turned it into Highbridge the Label.”

RAP BEEF: XXXTENTACTION: Drake Is A "Pussy Nigga"

XXXTENTACTION: Drake Is A "Pussy Nigga"
XXXTENTACION takes shots at Drake, whom he believes swaggerjacked his "Look at Me" flow.
Last month, the internet debated whether or not Drake stole XXXTENTACION's "Look at Me" flow on an unreleased song he performed in Europe. X did not originate the flow, but given the popularity of "Look at Me," it is certainly within the realm of possibility that Drake lifted X's cadence consciously or unconsciously.
At least one person is certain that Drake stole X's flow: X himself, judging from the vitriolic tweets he dispatched Sunday morning.
“I’m not gonna twitter rap with niggas for stealing my flow, I slap niggas don’t come to Florida," he wrote. "It’s funny how the industry let this pussy Nigga sit at the top for so long, all y’all suck kill yourselves, Meh dun chat.”
He deleted those tweets -- then, three hours later, he kicked off another anti-Drake Twitter tirade:
I'm not gonna say no names but it's funny how one of my niggas hit me up saying "drake watched ur interview and fucks with you." Now this pussy nigga trying to play it save and play it innocent, but it's cool we all know "hot line bling" was a bite of "chacha." I'm not the first nigga he bit, nor will i be the last, drake a pussy nigga money don't buy you respect. drakes career is almost over, he better start investing money into real-estate cause once it's all over he really gonna see the "fake love"
His posts came hours after Drake spoke on the controversy last night during an interview with DJ Semtex on OVO Sound Radio. "I [listened to 'Look at Me'] and I’m like, okay, I see where people could draw this comparison off of the first two lines, whether it be cadence or the rhyme pattern or whatever,” Drake said. “It’s crazy that people think that after all this time, after all I’ve been through, that I’m the type of person... to go and take that and make it my own. I’m not stupid, I’m not a shit person like that.”
Here is everything you need to know about XXXTENTACION. See his tweets below.

Drake Addresses Beef With Meek Mill & How Meek's Emotions Caused Him To Make Ghostwriter Claims! "Ask Him If It Was Worth It, I Bet He'll Tell You No"

Drake sat down with DJ Semtex to address his beef with Meek Mill. Drake discusses Ghostwriter claims by Meek and how his infamous diss track "Back to Back" was created and saying Meek Mill's choice to start beef with him as "terrible" and "impulsive." Drake adds, "You can ask Meek if he thought it was worth it and I'll bet you he tell you 'no.'"

Drake Shows Off His Under Construction Toronto Mansion

Drake gives fans a taste of his upcoming Toronto mansion.

Drake runs Toronto, but soon the king of the city will have his very own 6ixside palace. Taking to Instagram to keep fans up to date, Drizzy dropped a photo of his under construction mansion, and it seems like Aubrey is very amped about it.

The neighborhood of Toronto where Drake decided to build his dream home is one called The Bridle Path, located in a section of the city called North York. It is reportedly the most affluent neighborhood in Canada. Once upon a time, late musical legend Prince had a mansion there, too.
Despite Drizzy's IG acclamation, the rapper is not currently in Toronto, but rather, on tour in Europe. Tomorrow night he will be performing in Dublin, Ireland.

NEWS: Drake Debuts New Stone Island Chain From Ben Baller

Drake Debuts New Stone Island Chain From Ben Baller

Drizzy sees the new chain for the first time in a video posted by the jeweler.

Drake has been rocking a lot of Stone Island gear on his European tour, and he's now got some flashy jewelry to match it. Drake and sought-after jeweler Ben Baller met up in Manchester to do a handoff, debuting a shiny new chain on Instagram today.

I met @champagnepapi at the Apple Store in the Beverly center in 2008. From that day on I fucked with The Boy heavy. I was picking him up from the airport, getting him cars, trees and showing him my city like a real big homie does. #SoFarGone dropped and shit hit the fan. Then #ThankMeLater, then #TakeCare and He would take me on tour to be apart of the show giving out chains to random girls in the audience. One time at a sold out show in San Jose, Drake forgot where we were because he screamed out "LA what's good???!!!!" And that Bay Area crowd boo'd 😭LOUD😩. It felt like that southwest commercial, Wanna get away? I back stepped off that stage dumb fast 😂 In 2012 I started my family and he became the biggest superstar in the 🌎 and we lost communication... So 9 years later were here in Manchester U.K. to finally have our full circle moment. More life and more jewels to come bro #OVO #TheBoyMeetsWorldTour #IFANDCO #StoneIsland

From the looks of the chain in the clip, it's based on Italian brand Stone Island's compass logo, and also features the words "on tour" at the bottom. Ben also gave a closer look at the back of the piece, which reads "BINGING THAT CERTY" with Drake's "6 God" logo just below it.

Drake is in the middle of his The Boy Meets World Tour. Earlier this week he revealed that his More Life project would be complete in one and a half to two weeks time.

NEWS: Drake On Donald Trump: "F*** That Man"

Drake On Donald Trump: "F*** That Man"

Drake offers some words on "all this bullshit going on in the world."
Drake generally isn't known to speak on politics, but it seems that Donald Trump's recent actions have inspired him to take a stand. The OVO rapper used a section of one of his recent shows in Europe to talk about the "bullshit" he sees going on in the world, and how important it is to bring people together in times like these.

"For some reason in my room, they've got the TV set to CNN," he said. "Every day I wake up, I see all this bullshit going on in the world. People trying to tear us apart, people trying to make us turn against each other. So tonight, my proudest moment isn't selling tickets or having people sing my songs, my proudest moment -- if you take a look around in this room, you'll see people of all races and all places."

While he never mentioned Trump by name, the message was clear. "Show love, celebrate life, more life, and more music," he continued. "If you think one man can tear this world apart, you're out of your motherfucking mind. It's on us to keep this shit together. Fuck that man."

Drake also spoke of the possibility of a Young Money Reunion show at a recent concert in London. His More Life playlist is due out later this month.

NEWS: WizKid & Drake's "Hush Up The Silence"

Starboy's 'Hush up the silence' with Drake shows he is no longer 'Nigerian'

Sorry music patriots, Wizkid is not doing it the way you think he will. He isn’t chasing the ‘Nigerian’ sound’ that you had high hopes that he will.
He isn’t doing ‘Tungba’ music either. What he is chasing is totally different from the sounds that many Nigerians expect him to push. Instead he is going the way of the Caribbean, and creating music that is cool experimentation of their dancehall template.

We saw this happen in ‘One Dance’, where Drake appropriated Dancehall for profit, and Wizkid played multi-faceted role in it. Then he pulled it off with Tinie Tempah on ‘Mamacita’. Before flirting with Justine Skye in a way that is totally not Nigerian on ‘U don’t know’.
But it is ‘Daddy Yo’, his single from 2016, that should have set the alarm bells ringing, or rather, hit you with the resignation in the fact that Wizkid is chasing a different route with his quest for ‘international exposure’.  Wizkid relies on the classic Reggaeton beat as a base, before layering it with a melody that is both forward and immersive. Then there’s the chorus taken by Efya.

On newly leaked song with Drake ‘Hush up the silence’, the Caribbean vibe is on again, with Wizkid owning the riddims from the moment he opens up his mouth.
“Came into the game, no one replace me/Mi love mine and she straight with no chaser/I love my guys, know mi all about mi paper/Mi got mi girls all around me, mi no chaser, yah/Starboy, call me number one/When mi tune drop, the girls, they bounce along/Mi no like nothing come between me and mi paper/So when mi come inna di place, mi undertaker,” he rhymes.
Drake too continues where he left off on the “Views” album. He is all reggaeton and chill on the record. “Too mix up in drama to go outside/Too mix up in drama to free my mind/Jealous people around me, I need to change my life/I just turn colder every time I try/What would I do without you, my chargi?/I don’t feel that way with anybody/Tell me your secrets, I’m not messy/Steady it for me, girl, hold steady,” he spits.

Drizzy and Wizzy continue their chemistry from the smash hit single “One Dance” off Views, which went four times platinum and was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks. And it shows that Wizkid is working on a ‘Caribbean’ strategy to win the US market that he so desperately wants to operate in.
While doing that, he slowly loses the sounds that are closer to home, and comes through as a Nigerian artiste who is embracing the Caribbean template, and giving off his own redefinition of it. That’s a strategy that provides international audiences with a vibe that is both recognisable and proven to work. Only this time, its coming from a different vessel – The 'AS Daddy Ayo Balogun'.
Wiz is currently working on his forthcoming LP Sounds From the Other Side. And has already promised 4 mixtapes in 2017 to set him up for a prolific output. But he continues to embrace the Caribbean for inspiration, rather than the sounds closer to home.

Lil Wayne hinted at new music with Minaj and Drake during an interview with ESPN earlier this month. "I got my key players, I got my Nickis, I got my Drizzys, so we’re gonna be alright."

The purpose of the trio's most recent get together, though Minaj tagged Young Money president Mack Maine, suggesting that it was for official business/scheming.

NEWS: Drake's Competition in 2017 Might Just Be His Father

Drake's Competition in 2017 Might Just Be His Father

The way most of us met Dennis Graham was indirect. Before we laid eyes on the man and his remarkable mustache, we were introduced to the Memphis native via the work of his son, Aubrey Graham, better known to planet Earth residents as Drake. From the beginning of his career -- literally, from the very first track of his first studio album -- Drake has put his father right in his lyrical crosshairs: "My dad called me up knowing that I still listen/ And he’s still got his foot out, guilt trippin’/ It’s been years, though, I just learn to deal with it," he raps on "Fireworks" off 2010's Thank Me Later. Even on one of the rapper’s latest releases, "Two Birds, One Stone," Drake continues to paint a portrait of Graham through unflinching vignettes that often show a rocky, but immensely formative relationship.
"It was good to hear some things," Graham admits about Drake’s lyrics. "We had a discussion about some of the things that were said, and it’s all good. Because I know why he was doing it. He explained to me why, so it made it alright."
And it hasn’t dampened the sheer joy of watching his son rise from aspiring actor to one of the world’s most recognizable creative voices. "He did what I always thought I would do," Graham says. "I always thought that I would be that big star, and I never made it. But Drake did it and I felt like, by him doing it, I had made it."
But now Graham is finally making an honest run at his own solo career, with a new single and album to follow. In many ways, he was just as -- if not more -- positioned for fame than Drake.
He was raised in Memphis (Graham won’t reveal his exact age) with music in his blood. His uncle was Willie Mitchell, a producer who worked for the Memphis soul label Hi Records, perhaps best known for his work with Al Green. His cousin, Teenie Hodges, would grow up to be a prolific guitarist and songwriter for Green, too. There’s an incorrect factoid out there that Graham’s mother babysat Aretha Franklin. It was actually his grandmother and Tina Turner, he says. But it seems Graham was never very far from talent, including his own.
He taught himself to play the piano, guitar, and drums as a kid. Raised by a single mother to the sounds of B.B. King, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Little Johnny Taylor, and Sam Cooke, Graham often had to be resourceful. His first drum kit was a converted tin bathtub. His cousin accompanied him on the cardboard box.
Graham has pretty much been in one band or another his whole life. Around age 18, he lucked into a gig drumming with Jerry Lee Lewis. He was hanging out at a Memphis club called the Hot Air Balloon when Lewis’ drummer walked across the street for a beer and cigarettes. Problem was, he didn’t have any cash. "So he robbed her. He pulled a pistol out," Graham recalls. "I’m glad I didn’t go to the store with him." Instead Graham walked upstairs to deliver the unfortunate news to Lewis that his drummer was currently a fugitive. He ended up covering that night, and would continue to work with Lewis whenever the two crossed paths.
Graham eventually moved to Toronto. He met Drake’s mother, Sandi, after a set one night at Club Bluenote. When Drake was about five -- right around the age his parents split -- Graham remembers bringing him onstage to play the tambourine. He was a regular at jam sessions between Graham and Teenie Hodges. "It’s in [Drake's] blood,” Graham says plainly.
When Drake was around nine years old, Graham remembers his son proposing a $5 bet. “I’m going to do more music than you ever did. I’m going to do more movies than you ever did,” the younger Graham said confidently. His father agreed to the deal. He finally paid his debt in 2009. Thankfully, Drake did not charge interest.
But it seems the bet might not officially be won just yet. Just over a month ago, Graham released his new single, "Kinda Crazy." The video should be out in February or March. Is there more on the way -- an album, perhaps? "One hundred percent," Graham says before correcting himself: "One thousand percent." Despite a brief moment of social media indigestion, where Graham threatened over Instagram to unfollow anyone who didn’t buy his single (he insists it was a marketing technique, a form of “reverse psychology,”), he says he’s pleased with the song’s reception.
“Kinda Crazy” is probably not what most expected, especially critics looking for an easy punch line. Graham’s deep and surprisingly warm voice drapes over a slow-burning ‘90s instrumental, ripe with slick electric guitar picking and cascading piano that, when combined, form an undeniable sonic aphrodisiac. It’s got a fur-coat sensuality about it, and shows the bones of what could be an interesting album -- one which might just feature a very special guest verse. “[Drake and I will] eventually get around to doing something together sooner or later,” Graham says.
The work he’s done so far apparently already has Drizzy's seal of approval. Graham loves that he can share his work with his son now, and the crossover star has apparently been returning the favor. Graham has heard most of his son’s secretive new project, More Life, which prominently features Graham himself on its album art. He affirms it is "worth waiting for -- trust me." Anything else he can share about it? No luck -- Pop’s been in the game too long to fall for that one: “You’re trying to get me killed.”

SHORT FILM: Drake - Obey Your Thirst (Episode 1)

Drake - Obey Your Thirst (Episode 1)

Drake is a superstar—the only guy who could dethrone Taylor Swift on the charts with a mixtape. In a rare interview, he spoke with The FADER.

Coming up in Toronto, people told Drake to move to New York if he was serious about making it. Instead, he stayed where he was and made history by proving that if you’re a truly multi-layered artist, you can make it from anywhere. “Do it the way I did it," he says in the above Obey Your Thirst documentary. "Do it from where you’re at. If you have the music, that's all it takes."

Now, at the top of his game, Drake says he competes not with established legends or other top-sellers, but with the countless kids itching to take his spot.

Now that hip-hop's playing field is more open than ever before, Drake knows
there are countless kids itching to take his spot. Those up-and-comers are now his competition, not any established rapper. “That’s how I try to keep pushing this forward,” he says. “Just to let that kid know that I’m not done yet.” Watch the full documentary above, and stay tuned for three more by Sprite and The FADER, sharing the stories of Nas, Vince Staples, and Isaiah Rashad.
