Off-Duty Cop Is Suing The Game For $12 Million

The off-duty cop whom The Game punched and threatened during a basketball game is now seeking a lot of money.

Although The Game turned himself in over the punch he threw at an off-duty cop during a March basketball game, it looks like things are far from over. The West Coast rapper was booked earlier this week and already posted his bail of $50,000-- but the cop he punched wants him to shell out a lot more.

The off-duty cop, name Onyebuchi Awaji, filed a $12 million lawsuit against the rapper. Does that sound about right? As we first reported, The Game got into a fight with Awaji during a Pro-Am basketball game in L.A., and the heated argument led to The Game punching the fellow player and threatening to kill him.

Awaji is now seeking a big pay day to help remedy his sufferings (physical, emotional, and financial). According to court documents, the breakdown is as follows:

Pain and suffering: $1,000,000
Emotional distress: $1,000,000
Medical expenses (to date): $50,000
Medical expenses (future): $100,000
Punitive damages: $10 million

The lawsuit was actually filed in April (a month after the incident), but Game has yet to respond. The rapper is currently awaiting trail.

The Marvin Gaye family lawsuit over "Blurred Lines" has revealed the total earnings from the song.

If you think the music industry is dying, a look at the revenue from Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" may change your mind. The ongoing lawsuit from Marvin Gaye's family has already unveiled secrets of the recording process (bottom line: Pharrell did everything), and now it's given us a look at the total earnings of the song.

While the classic industry belief is that the label takes close to all the proceeds made from music, the artists actually made a pretty huge chunk of cash this time around. According to Business Insider, T.I. pulled in $700,000 from sales, while Pharrell and Thicke split a cool $5 million.

With that being said, the labels did net the majority of the earnings, with Interscope Records, Universal Music Group, and Star Trak (yep, more money in Williams' pocket) taking in the remainder of the $16,675,690 total.

Marvin Gaye's estate is currently fighting for a cut of the writing credits, we'll keep you posted on the outcome of the suit.

 Universal Targets Mixtapes Being Sent To Prison Inmates In New Lawsuit

Universal Music Group takes aim at mixtape compilations being sent to prison inmates via care package websites.

While us average folk can easily and legally listen or download the latest music thanks to music platforms like iTunes, Amazon, Google Play (and the list goes on), prison inmates don't have the same accessibility to these sites. Thus, often times, friends and family will send them care packages, that, according to a new lawsuit from Universal Music Group, contain pirated music.

Universal filed a new lawsuit on Tuesday with targets prisoner care package websites, including ones like the Centric Group and Keefe Group. Universal alleges that these sites send off mixtapes complete with illegal music to prisoners (some artists they name are Eminem, James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder), and thus they are suing them for copyright infringement. 

The lawsuit states, "Defendants boast on their website that their business 'was developed to eliminate contraband,' yet the infringing copies of Plaintiffs’ sound recordings and musical compositions, in which Defendants unlawfully transact and from which they unjustly profit, are contraband personified."

Universal goes on to explain what exactly a 'mixtape' is in the suit, saying that more often than not they "are nothing more than collections of infringing, piratical compilations of copyrighted or otherwise legally protected sound recordings and copyrighted musical composition."

For "reproducing, distributing and preparing derivative works based on their compositions" Universal Music Group is seeking the maximum amount in statutory damages, namely, $150,000 per copyrighted work infringed upon.

Alleged Childhood Friend Of DJ Mustard Sues Him Over Lack Of Producer Credit

Once you start getting a bit of a success and fame, the lawsuits start piling in. DJ Mustard is starting to reach that stage in his career, with a new lawsuit claiming he ripped off ideas from a friend by the name of Mike Free.

Mike Free claims to be a childhood friend of Mustard in his new lawsuit, and states that he wrote, composed and produced the song that became the launching pad for Mustard's career-- Tyga's "Rack City." However, he says he never got his deserved credit for it. This wasn't a one-off song, Mike Free says he and Mustard agreed to share composer and producer credits, as Free had all the ideas and Mustard had the necessary connections in the industry. Free says he had ideas for several other big Mustard tracks-- "Don't Tell Em" by Jeremih, 2 Chainz's "I'm Different," Big Sean's "IDFWU," and more.

He wants royalties from all those songs, plus proper production credits.

50 Cent has failed to pay the cool $17.2 million he owes to Sleek Audio, and thusly, his bank account's been frozen.

With 50 Cent's net worth sitting near the top of the hip-hop heap at $140 million, you'd think the guy could spare seventeen of those M's like it ain't no thing. Well, either he's unwilling or unable to part with that sum, because his bank account has now been frozen in punishment for his refusal to pay up to Sleek Audio, who sued him for that amount earlier this year.

Back in April, Fif was order to cough up $17.2 million to the company he once invested in, and now TMZ is reporting that his personal bank account has been frozen as a result. Looks like he'll have to succumb to Sleek's wishes, or take further legal action.
