YG Says His Mom's A Crip, Covers "The Source" With Ty Dolla $ign & DJ Mustard
YG, DJ Mustard, and Ty Dolla $ign score the cover story in this month's Source.
2014 hip hop wouldn't have been the same without Pushaz Ink -- the crew made up of DJ Mustard, YG, and Ty Dolla $ign. All three of the artists manage to infiltrate the radio, and influence those around them, and they always sounded best when they were working togethger.
Of course, their reign is only just beginning, and they'll be giving us the scoop on their plans to build an empire in the newest issue of The Source, which they've scored the cover of. So far, we only have a few quotes from the interview, which range from music, to loss, to hilarity.
You can check out a preview of the story below.
YG on putting aside gang affiliations:
My momma Crip, she from a Crip neighborhood... I’m the reason why we got Blood n--gas and we got Crip n--gas in one click–that’s me.
Ty Dolla $ign on changing his ways:
I used to produce with this other dude named G Casso, and when he died that fucked me up. He got killed. He got killed and it fucked me up to where I didn’t even feel like making beats like that, you know, that was another reason why I slowed down.
DJ Mustard on his work ethic:
That’s what a lot of people don’t understand, like, this is more than producing... they don’t understand that this is a full-time job. It’s not like I’m just making a beat and Big Sean happens to stumble into the studio. It’s not like that.” [...] “People take it lightly. You gotta grind for what you want and really take it to the next level–it’s a different era. It’s really just [about] changing the sound up, not staying the same.
